Just a short note and an awesome infographic today.
I downloaded 2 apps today that supposedly did the same exact thing but have an entirely different feel to using them. Image Blender and Synthesis Pro both blend 2 pictures into one pictures, but they do it with completely different interfaces. Image Blender has simple instructions to guide you to create awesome pictures. Synthesis Pro has no instructions and I could not figure out how to create anything nearly as cool as the pictures seen in the screenshots in the App Store.
I have seen this same problem time and time again. Some developers understand that although their interface may be completely intuitive to them, it still needs simple instructions. Others don't seem to get this concept. I don't know if they don't do any field studies or beta tests, but simple instructions make a world of difference to an app's success. Image Blender is recommended by Apple. Synthesis Pro is not. The reviews tell the whole story. Their are negative reviews for Image Blender, but it has many raving reviews. Synthesis Pro has no reviews at all.
So, developers, please, please, please heed this request. Test your app out with people unfamiliar with it before assuming that it is completely intuitive and doesn't need instructions. It makes a world of difference.
Now, I bring you an awesome infographic on Instagram.
