Since implementing the new blog layout, I noticed that the static page shows nothing on phones. If you want to see posts on a phone, you must go to Page 2.
If you want to see this blog when reading on your devices in the way it is intended to be seen, you have to go to the bottom of your page and hit the words “Standard Site,” which will take you to the regular WordPress site rather than its mobile site. This is true of a great many sites that are set up to recognize the iPad the same way it recognizes the iPhone, which is unfortunate given the screen size difference. I usually like to read things in standard form on my iPad & mobile form on my iPhone.
UPDATED: I think I changed this so that the iPad registers it the way it’s supposed to be. Can’t do anything for the phones, unfortunately.
FOR OTHER BLOGGERS: I thought you might like to know from someone who solely uses an iPad, every single theme I’ve seen so far looks much better NOT using Onswipe. The “custom” app-like feel that you can set up for iPads is cheesy, yet boring & plain. Not to mention that it transfers over none of the character that I think we all put into choosing our themes, colors, etc. If you really want one iPad user’s opinion, don’t set up the custom iPad theme. It’s not so custom & it ruins sites & I just hit “View on Standard Site” anyway. It truly is not necessary on the iPad. I don’t know why they recommend it. But, that’s just one girl talking.
I agree. When wordpress originally introduced the tablet layout (onswipe) automatically it crashed safari whilst viewing my page on my first old generation iPad because of the limited memory. Needless to say I disabled it.
Onswipe and themes like it also disable pinch zooming, quick scrolling to the top of the page, etc. All of the things iPads are very good at doing whilst browsing web content.
On a much brighter note I enjoy your site.
Kind regards,
Stephen
Thank you regarding my site.
I obviously agree about Onswipe. It’s just ugly, unintuitive, and just generally makes a mess out of my site, in my opinion. Unfortunately, even with it, I can’t make my site easily viewable for iPhone users, because my site runs on a static page rather than the typical blog set up. If they could give me something that was mobile friendly which translated my site for iPhone users, I would definitely use it, though.
